When there was no attempt at an attack, he relaxed slightly, still ready for the magic that Magnus had warned him about. He knew its strengths and weaknesses both from training with the High Warlock and from the rune that allowed them to share each others' training. "I am not your responsibility!" he huffed, almost outraged that someone who looked like Magnus would suggest it. They were equals, not each other's responsibility. It made Alec feel like he was a kid on his first hunt instead of the warrior who was slowly earning the trust of the New York Downworlders.
Taking a step back when the fire disappeared, he blinked at the imposter when a cup appeared in his hand. As the drink was offered to him, Alec automatically took it, surprised and strangely comforted when he realized it was tea. Not the chai Magnus usually gave him, but something to soothe fraying nerves. It was a gesture that his Magnus would use to calm him down.
Letting out an indignant sound when he realized the tea had been a distraction, he almost pulled away, but if he didn't follow, he wouldn't learn what the warlock wanted. "You aren't him. Magnus is taller than me. I know how his magic feels. Yours feels similar but it's not the same."
Similar but not the same. That could mean a brother or... By the Angel, it couldn't be. Swallowing hard, he ignored the horror that accompanied the thought of being captured by Magnus' father. No, this being was a warlock, not demon. "Are you Magnus' brother?"
