His heart ached to think of having that kind of time with Alec, of six months together that could be an eternity in the uncertain life of a Shadowhunter. Living together, sharing a space and a life, seemed like it was still a dream for Magnus. They had just recently opened up to each other about how deeply they felt, the love they shared, and yet Alec was talking about so much more. It hurt to be told it had happened rather than feeling it, but it also gave him a strange sense of hope for what the future might hold.

Trying to pull his thoughts away from distance edges and focus on the present, Magnus found that he wasn't surprised to hear the difference in Alec's confirmation. All of them had gone, and demons had existed there. It's was nearly opposite of Clary traveling alone into a dimension where demons had been wiped out and Shadowhunters no longer needed. "I think it's possible that you and I are from different realities," he said slowly, as if he didn't fully believe it yet and had to test the concept out for himself. But it would explain the very slight differences in their appearances, the disparity in timelines, and even the different quality of Magnus' magic that Alec seemed to have felt.

His heart ached at the memory of the spell which had fed on Alec's insecurities and pushed him to the point of attempting to take his life. Grip tightening on Alec's wrists, he raised his hands to rest against his neck so that long, strong fingers cupped Magnus' jaw and the back of his head. "I know, darling, and I'd never do something like that to you," he promised, building up what magic he had left inside of him and preparing all the most important memories to share with Alec.
